VCMDWA issues legal notice to INTEL Corp.

VCMDWA – Vidarbha Computer & Media Dealers’ Welfare Association Nagpur; one of India’s leading IT Trade associations, has slapped a Legal notice on M/s. INTEL Technology (India) Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi through its Legal Advisor M/s. DEWANI Associates, Nagpur. Interestingly INTEL happens to be a globally acclaimed Computer CPU Chip manufacturer and is a very popular brand.

VCMDWA holds an annual event in the name and style of Comp-Ex; a registered trade mark (vide No.1501323). Over the years, Comp-Ex has gained a lot of popularity and the number of people visiting the exhibition has increased and is also increasing day-by-day. It has crossed a footfall of more than 1.5 Lac visitors. The exhibition has acquired great name, popularity and reputation with the public at large for the products that are displayed and offered for sale.

VCMDWA has been ranked 3rd best IT Trade association in the country. Many big business houses and businessmen participate in the exhibition and encash on the reputation and goodwill of the name of Comp-Ex. INTEL earlier used to participate in Comp-Ex but avoided participation in Comp-Ex 2009. INTEL however invented a novel way and encashed on the reputation and popularity of Comp-Ex, by releasing big advertisements in daily newspapers and clearly inviting people to visit Comp-Ex exhibition. INTEL, in the process, has deliberately released the advertisements to commercially exploit and encash on the goodwill, reputation and popularity of Comp-Ex. INTEL has illegally used the registered trademark Comp-Ex in the advertisement without any permission or license to do so.

Hence, VCMDWA through its President Mr.Prashant Ugemuge has issued an express legal notice through the noted law firm M/s. Dewani Associates, Sadar, Nagpur for compensating VCMDWA for the illegal use of its trademark and the damages suffered. He is expecting that good sense would prevail upon the company and would do the needful.
